The BBC’s historic gay dating show, ‘I Kissed a Boy’, came back with a bang this month, and each episode of season two has become more unpredictable than the last.
Episode five saw one of the most dramatic kiss-offs in herstory, with Jordon R becoming the second boy to leave the Masseria.
“If I was going to leave the Masseria in any way, it had to be done like that,” he tells Gay Star News. “It had to be the iconic exit that was given.”
Jordon says that, despite not finding love, he did find “a great gay circle” of friends, which is something he’s never had before.
“Just having that support from someone who also can understand you a little bit more than the girls do in the sexual sense, it’s really nice to have them be able to connect and just relate to that really,” he explains, adding: “Jack is like my ride or die. He’s literally like my bestie. We’re on the phone, because he’s obviously in Liverpool, I’m in Leeds, we’re on the phone every day for like three hours.”
‘I Kissed a Boy’ has seen important discussions about LGBTQ+ identities, HIV and transphobia air on the BBC, which Jordan says has “been beautiful” to be part of.
His own discussion with Jordan about grief was praised by viewers with similar experiences.
“I don’t really like speaking about things like that, and then having it aired on national television, I was a bit like, ‘Oh my God, what is this?’
“But the response that I’ve got from people who have actually related to the same situation has been really nice, and who have been in the same kind of boat to what me and Jordan have both been in, as you kind of seen, me and Jordan, had never met anybody who had shared that same experience.
“So, being able to connect on that and knowing that I can now speak to Jordan if I am feeling down, or if I am feeling a certain way about it because the emotions do still come up, it’s really nice to know that I now have that support.”
Despite his run on the show now being over, Jordon says fans can look forward to the reunion that is set to air in the coming weeks.
“We’ve all had different experiences,” he teases. “And we’re all going to have seen what’s happened on the show, and some people might not all have liked what things have been said at different points. So there might be a little bit of drama, but I’m not too sure. I can’t speak for the other boys.”
